LotRo

Well, I used the guest pass for Lord of the Rings Online and promptly rolled up a Dwarf Champion.
I love playing dwarves and I haven’t played one since EQ2 launch.
What a great scripted new player experience LotRo has. Little videos about each race and class.
It was great seeing some charcter like Gandalf. I have to admit fighting alongside of Gilmi was a fanboy moment.

I love the EQ2 new player experience. We will see how LotRo compares.

The first thing that gets me about LotRo is the sense of scale.
Big towering mountations. Waterfalls and streams. It just feels more epic.
The only big negative of day one is the character sounds get annoying fast. I was killing these rock hunter things and they sound like crying babies when you kill them. Not cool

Combat wise, there is not much of a difference from Eq2.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I ran into a guildmate from my other guild, The Call of Fate, while playing a friends copy of Tabula Rasa. He asked if I was interested in playing Lotro. If so has a 10 day guest pass I can use. Now I am pretty happy with EQ2. I’ve been playing for it exclusively for over a year, but it is getting a bit stale. I tried Tabula Rasa which was fun, but there are doing to many skill changes atm and I’ll wait until it settles down before committing to it. I’m in open beta Pirates of the Burning Sea which I just don’t like at all. So I figured I’d give Lotro a try. As I’m patching it I see the following ad:

“This season Turbine is excited to bring you a very special holiday offer. Now through January 31, 2008, you can start playing The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ for only $9.99 a month!
